Air Fryer Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins (Eggless)

Air Fryer banana chocolate chip muffins are super moist and delicious. They are great for breakfast, snacks for lunch boxes, and even dessert.

Whenever I have an overripe banana, I make eggless banana bread or banana chocolate chip muffins. Now that my little one developed a taste for banana muffins (because of chocolate chips!!), I try to make banana chocolate chip muffins more often as they are easy to pack in the lunch box, and he loves his individual portion.

They are also a delicious healthy snack for kids. I used overripe bananas for this recipe, so I have to add less sugar. And another great thing about this vegan, eggless, banana chocolate chip muffin is that they are made from whole wheat flour. Win-Win!!

We also love them as weekend breakfast. The warm banana chocolate chip muffins fresh out of the air fryer are to die for! We usually have 4-5 leftovers, and I keep those in the refrigerator for packing in a lunch box for the next two days.

Why make air fryer banana chocolate chip muffins in an air fryer?

That’s a good question! Why would you make muffins in the air fryer when you have an oven? Since I started using an air fryer, I have used my oven less and less. I love my air fryer because it is compact, takes no time to warm up, and cooks faster than a convection oven.

Air fryer Banana chocolate chip muffins are equally good as you had to bake them in an oven, so why not bake them in an air fryer.

Ingredients needed to make Air fryer Banana Chocolate chip Muffins

All the ingredients to make air fryer banana chocolate chip muffins are readily available in any pantry. Here are the ingredients and alternatives

Banana – Overripe banana. I used a dark yellow banana with black spots for this recipe. The riper the banana is, the batter it is, as you will need to add less sugar.

Whole wheat flour – Whole wheat flour banana muffins are darker in color than those made with all-purpose flour. But I love mine with whole wheat flour as it has a nutty flavor. But if you don’t have whole wheat flour, use all-purpose flour or half rolled oats and half all-purpose flour.

Brown Sugar – I love this recipe’s combination of whole wheat flour and brown sugar.

Oil – vegetable oil or any other oil you have in your hand.

Semi-sweet chocolate chips – lots of it!

Vanilla extract

Baking powder

Baking Soda

Ground Cinnamon Powder

And, of course, an Air fryer. Any model of air fryer -basket, tray, instant pot lid with work for this recipe.

You also need a silicone baking mold, whisk, spatula, fork, and a bowl.

Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool down or enjoy them when warm with a cup of coffee!

Tips for success

  • Use overripe bananas.
  • Do not overmix the batter. Instead, gently fold in with a spatula.
  • Silicone molds work excellent for this recipe. You can also use a metal muffin tin if it fits in your air fryer.
  • For smoother texture and lighter color of cooked muffins, use all-purpose flour. But if you want a richer flavor, then use whole wheat flour.
  • Do not overfill the muffin cups; otherwise, they will overflow in the air fryer while baking.

Storage guideline

Leftover banana chocolate chip muffins can stay fresh at room temperature for 2-3 days in an airtight container. And refrigerated air fryer muffins can last for 4-5 days.

Can you freeze banana chocolate chip muffins?

Yes, chocolate chip banana muffins freeze well. Bake them and let them cool completely. Then, individually, wrap them in a saran and place them in a Ziplock bag for freezing. These muffins are a great make-ahead recipe.

Make a double batch on the weekend and freeze them for next weekend’s breakfast.

And when you are ready to serve the muffins, take them out the night before and leave them in a refrigerator. Or you can take frozen muffins out and place them in an air fryer at 320°F for 4-5 minutes if you prefer warm muffins as I do.
