Peanut Butter Twist?
I tried peanut butter twist the first time I was at a soccer potluck party for my son. One of the moms made peanut butter twists, which was the most loved food item that night. It was delicious, peanut buttery, and crunchy.
I couldn’t resist and had to ask for the recipe. So, the peanut butter twist was nothing but rolled dough spread with peanut butter and confectioner sugar, twisted and baked.
The crunchy peanut butter twists are easy to make and taste delicious.

How to make Air fryer Peanut Butter Twists
Air fryer peanut butter twists are easy to make. And if you have a bread machine, it makes it easy to prepare the dough.
Prepare dough in Bread Machine
In a bread machine, add warm water, butter, salt, and sugar. Then add bread flour and yeast. Select the dough cycle and start the bread machine.
Once all the ingredients are mixed and starting from the dough, open the lid of the bread maker and check the dough. If needed, add 1-2 tablespoons of water. You want a medium-stiff dough that you can roll.
Once the dough cycle is finished (mine usually takes 1.5 hours), take out the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface.
Punch the dough and divide it into two equal portions for rolling.
Making dough by hand
In a bowl, place warm water, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well and let the mixture sit for 8-10 minutes for the yeast to proof.
After 10 minutes, the mixture will look foamy and bubbly.
Then add all-purpose flour and butter and knead the dough.
Once the dough is formed, cover the bowl with a dump cloth and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours.
Once the dough is double its size, punch it down and work with it on a flour-dusted surface.
Prepare filling
In a bowl, place peanut butter and confectioner sugar and mix it well.
Make Peanut butter twist

Take one part of the dough and roll it into a thin circle.
Spread half of the peanut butter filling equally on rolled dough.
Fold the rolled dough in half, as shown in the picture.

Cut the folded dough lengthwise into 8-9 pieces with a pizza cutter.
Now twist each piece and place it into greased air fryer basket.
Arrange each twisted piece 2 inches apart in the air fryer basket.

Air fry them at 360°F for 10-12 minutes.
Once they are done, take them out and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips for success
- Do not make very stiff dough because it won’t stay twisted while cooking.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket with a peanut butter twist. Arrange them 2 inches apart. Cook them in batches if you need more.
- Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
- If you are making an air fryer peanut butter twist for the first time, keep eye on your twist for the last 5 minutes of air frying because cooking time may vary depending on an air fryer’s model.
Recipe variations
- For quick peanut butter twists, you can replace homemade dough with puff pastry.
- If you use puff pasty, do not fold the pasty in half after spreading filling on it. Instead, you can cut lengthwise and twist each piece.
- You can skip the confectioner sugar when making filling to spread on rolled dough. I like the taste of peanut butter as it is. And dough already has sugar in it.
- If you like the buttery taste, add 1 tbsp of softened butter to your peanut butter – confectioner sugar mix and spread it over the rolled dough.
Serving Suggestion

Air Fryer peanut butter twists are delicious as is if served as a snack or appetizer. Of course, you can always serve them with your favorite jam.
I like to serve them with strawberry jam, fig jam, and Apple sauce. Then, serve peanut butter twists on a big platter with a dipping jam in the middle. People can grab a twist deep in a jam and enjoy!
Storage guideline
If you have leftover peanut butter twists, place them in an airtight container and keep them at room temperature for 2-3 days.
They will not be as crunchy as freshly baked. Instead, they will be a bit chewy the next day but still enjoyable.
Can you freeze peanut butter twists?
Yes, they make an excellent make-ahead snack. Once they are entirely cooled on a wire rack after air frying, please place them in a baking tray and put the packing tray in a freezer. Let them freeze overnight, and the next day, pack them in a zip lock bag and freeze them for 2-3 months.
When you are ready to serve them, take them out of the freezer, and air fry them at 360°F for 4-5 minutes. They will be as good as new.
